Bounty Hunters #3 - Comic Review

The all-star bounty hunter ensemble is back once again after a long, delayed release due to COVID-19 with Star Wars: Bounty Hunters #3, Galaxy’s Deadliest Part 3: As the Scorekeeper Wills. If you haven’t read the first two issues (and our respective reviews for part 1 and part 2), stop right here to avoid any plot spoilers!!!

The treacherous Nakano Lash re-emerges on the wanted list, and the price on her head has sparked the attention of the most famous bounty hunters in the whole galaxy—who happen to be her ex crew members. The Trandoshan Bossk, Boba Fett, T’onga, and her protégé Valance are closing in on Lash’s whereabouts. The relentless race to find the Nautolan female has brought deadly rivalry encounters among the bounty hunters—this issue showcasing an epic fight between Valance and Bossk that will keep you at the edge of your seat.

Paolo Villanelli’s impactful artwork raises the bar of grandeur—with oversized character action breaking out of the panels that made the whole experience feel like watching a blockbuster movie in 3D. Villanelli’s character composition and attention to detail is at its best with Bossk—with an emphasis on the Trandoshan’s strong physicality and his animalistic personality.

Ethan Sacks beautifully adds important layers to Valance’s character development on each issue—this time focusing on the cyborg’s physical insecurity, connecting it to a possible love interest. In terms of story development, Galaxy’s Deadliest Part 3 takes a break from the continuous time jumps at the core of the first two issues (besides Valance’s flashback), alleviating the mental challenges of connecting the multiple events together across the different timelines.

The highlight of this issue is without a doubt the bonus page at the end of the book, showcasing a schematic of Beilert Valance—focusing on his synthflesh, durasteel skeleton, weaponry, and much more—worthy of the best Star Wars visual dictionary.
