Fortune and Fate Part 4 wraps up the adventures in the Lost City of Vaale with a boom (literally). While the rogue archaeologist and company explore the maze tunnels of the Architects’ Workshop, they discover the mystery of the spooky bone matter that the Lost City was built with—possibly the reason driving the people of the cursed place mad. Defeated and without the powerful Rings of Vaale—the Ring of Fortune stolen by Just Lucky, who in the previous issue betrayed his team—our adventurers manage to escape the city alive (thanks to TA-418, who definitely deserves more spotlight). However, just as the day couldn’t get any worse for Aphra, she loses the third iteration of the Ark Angel—although soon replaced with a sweet ride straight out of the High Republic days!

Alyssa Wong takes the opportunity to delve into meaningful character development for Just Lucky—who went from side character to misunderstood foe. His background story, particularly about his dealings with Ronen Tagge, explain Lucky’s desperate cause—which is the reason for his affiliation with the ruthless scion of the powerful Tagge family.

Marika Cresta and Rachelle Rosenberg continue to deliver a sensational execution of Wong’s story—especially during the Canto Bight scenes, focusing on the flashy look of the casino and dapperness of its patrons. Speaking of artwork, Valentina Remenar’s cover art gets better and better every issue—this time showcasing a gorgeous portrait of Aphra holding the Ring of Fortune.

Doctor Aphra #4 – Fortune and Fate Part 4: The Deal turns up the intrigue and leaves the reader eager to find out what happens in the next issue. What are you waiting for?!
