After the War of the Bounty Hunters, Valance was reborn with a new and improved cybernetic body courtesy of the Empire and Darth Vader. Unfortunately, that means Valance owes Vader and the Dark Lord knows exactly what to use him for. Valance is sent out to lead a team of TIE Fighters to take out the legendary Imperial General Tarl Sokoli. Valance knows what he has to do, that he has no choice but to take on this mission, but will he be successful seeing as Sokoli is the war hero that inspired a young Valance to join the Empire in the first place? At the same time, T’onga and Losha decide they need to try to keep their crew of bounty hunters together in order to find Cadeliah and unite the underworld. The only way they can think of to do that, however, is to utilize Zuckuss’ old droid partner, 4-LOM, who is unfortunately at the time a giant murder bot!
Bounty Hunters #19 perfectly encapsulates the fun and wild ride that a Star Wars story should be. Writer Ethan Sacks does a fantastic job giving depth to this story and characters, very specifically with Valance having to hunt down his childhood hero, as well as pushing the story of the overall galaxy involving Crimson Dawn’s resurgence. He puts in just enough witty banter and over the top awesome moments to litter this issue with tons of memorable panels and pages.
The visual artist team for Bounty Hunters #19 consists of artist Ramón F. Bachs, colorist Bryan Valenza, and letterer VC’s Travis Lanham and does a wonderful job detailing Sacks’ story on the pages of this issue. Bachs’ detail during action scenes is on point, Valenza’s gorgeous colors offer rich detail that makes every panel feel like a shot from the movies, and Lanham’s sound effects elevate each scene involving them to the next level.
The main cover art for Bounty Hunters #19 comes from artists Giuseppe Camuncoli and Edgar Delgado and is a really cool piece that’s split down the middle of the cover with the right side depicting the TIE Pilot helmets of the team in this issue and the left side showing off a Stormtrooper helmet, together making one whole helmet and showing off the fight that’s to take place within between the two sides. The first variant cover is another stunning Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary cover from Chris Sprouse, Karl Story, and Neeraj Menon which consists of Han Solo and Lando Calrissian from Solo: A Star Wars Story and a backdrop of the Millennium Falcon. The second variant is by the team of Leinil Francis and Sunny Gho and boasts a gorgeous action piece with Bossk and Zuckuss up against a wall fighting off laser blasts from unseen enemies!
Bounty Hunters #19 is an awesome piece of Star Wars action that takes Valance up against the Empire itself, including his childhood hero, in order to prove himself to Darth Vader and pay off his unexpected debt for Vader giving him a new and improved body! It’s a wonderful action romp that deserves to be read by every Star Wars fan out there! Make sure to swing on by your local comic shop today to pick up a copy!
