General Vukorah of the Unbroken Clan syndicate has teamed up with Qi’ra and Crimson Dawn! The only people poised to stop her now are a group of ragtag ruffians led by T’onga. Bounty Hunters #21 finds T’onga’s crew putting aside their main mission of finding Cadeliah, the young heir to the Unbroken Clan and Mourner’s Wail syndicates, to attempt to finally put a stop to General Vukorah and her wild crusade. To do that, however, they’ll have to take a trip to the home base of the Unbroken Clan: Corellia! Here on Corellia they team with an unlikely ally, someone who fans of Solo: A Star Wars Story will appreciate seeing again: Lady Proxima! Within Proxima’s chambers, the group discusses how best to infiltrate the impenetrable fortress Vukorah resides in and eventually makes their move!
Bounty Hunters #21 moves at an absolutely breakneck speed thanks to Ethan Sacks’ fantastic storytelling. This issue flows like the middle act of a cocky ensemble action flick along the lines of Smokin’ Aces or an early Guy Ritchie film. The first few pages are solid story and set-up, but the comic quickly moves to the action as the crew go over the dangers of attacking Vukorah’s base, how easily they will dispatch of the defenses, and right into the thick of it. There’s a ton of fun and a lighthearted tone, albeit with genuine danger, throughout this issue that makes it an absolute blast!
Bounty Hunters #21‘s awesome and fun action spectacle would be nothing without an equally awesome team of artists. Artist Paolo Villanelli, colorist Bryan Valenza, and letter VC’s Travis Lanham have taken this kickass story and put out some stunning visual work that also feels reminiscent to the fun action crime movies mentioned previously. The fighting is very kinetic and visceral, from the hand to hand combat of Bossk to the dismembering knife fights and wicked sniper sequences of Tasu Leech and Losha, respectively. On top of it all, the team did a stellar job bringing in one of my personal favorite aspects of Solo: A Star Wars Story with Lady Proxima and all her intense and regal glory.
The main cover art for Bounty Hunters #21 comes from artists Giuseppe Camuncoli and Jesus Aburtov and shows off a heavily armored and intense General Vukorah taking on 4-LOM with the defeated bodies of Bossk and Zuckuss at her feet. The first of two variant covers was done by the Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary trio Chris Sprouse, Karl Story, and Neeraj Menon, this time depicting Greef Karga and the Mythrol from The Mandalorian. Interior artist Paolo Villanelli teams up with Antonio Fabela for the second variant cover that sees an intense confrontation between Lady Proxima and T’onga’s crew of bounty hunters in a tense face-off!
A fast paced and entertaining action spectacle, Bounty Hunters #21 is a great and fun, if a little light, issue that is perfect for fans of ensemble action stories and fans of Solo: A Star Wars Story! So hop on your swoop bike and zoom on down to your local comic shop to pick up an issue today!
