Bounty Hunters #27 - Comic Review

Bounty Hunters #27 finds T'onga booking the crew on one of their most controversial missions: guarding the Pikes!

After a recent mission, T’onga was approached by Lady Qi’ra for a proposition to help Crimson Dawn. Bounty Hunters #27 finds the leader of this crew of rogues doing everything she can in order to stay away from the Dawn and get money for her people. Unfortunately, that means taking on some rough jobs like guarding a group of criminals known as the Pike Syndicate from their enemies, the Nar Kanji who want to retaliate after a recent attack by the Pikes. This proves to be tough for one of the members of T’onga’s crew, Tasu Leech, as he’s from Nar Kanji himself. At the same time, we find our hapless cyborg bounty hunter turned Imperial Valance learning to deal with his new life in the Empire and the feelings he may have about the people around him.

Writer Ethan Sacks starts a new arc with Bounty Hunters #27 dealing with this current mission T’onga and her crew are on. It’s a fun and hot blooded start that deals with plenty of emotions from almost every major player. Sacks likes to bring emotion into this series, but it’s not long into the issue that the emotion boils over into an all out action romp that he is always perfect at writing!

The visual artistic team for Bounty Hunters #27 consists of artist Paolo Villanelli, colorist Arif Prianto, and letterer VC’s Travis Lanham who do a stellar job, as always, putting Sacks’ writing to the page. The way Villanelli draws the characters in this issue is breathtaking with my favorite part being when Losha is working out and full of rage, sadness, and regret. It’s a hard scene to view and is perfectly drawn to show off how badass and gorgeous Losha is while also detailing perfectly the various intense emotions radiating from her. My second favorite thing about the art in this issue is Prianto’s colors. His work is always fantastic, but it really just blows me away this issue. His work adds such a wonderful and moody vibe to the entire series of events.

The main cover art for Bounty Hunters #27 is done by artists Giuseppe Camuncoli and Jesus Aburtov—featuring an absolutely stunning depiction of Tasu Leech. The first variant cover is the Connecting variant from Ken Lashley and Juan Fernandez which depicts Losha, Zuckuss, and Tasu Leech defending the Pike leader they were hired to protect. The second and final variant cover comes from Chris Sprouse, Karl Story, and Rachelle Rosenberg, and is part of the Choose Your Destiny series, this time boasting a fantastic rendition of Count Dooku and his always cool lightsaber hilt.

Bounty Hunters #27 starts an exciting new arc for this crew of rogues, as well as some interesting new developments with Valance too! Sacks continues his awesome action romp with stunning art from the entire group. So hop on your swoop bikes and zoom on down to your local comic shop to pick up your copy today!
