Spoiler Warning
Valance had just arrived outside the Rebel transport The Spirit of Jedha when he was immediately ambushed by the Ohnaka Gang and their new leader Captain Skragg. Short on time and firepower, Valance turns his ship into an escape pod and lands inside The Spirit of Jedha. Unfortunately for him, the commander of the Rebel ship, Hill Purpura, doesn’t seem to have any interest in letting Valance help them. In fact, he immediately puts him into a holding cell and tells his people that he doesn’t trust Valance at all and will instead be surrendering the ship to the pirates. Thankfully, Valance’s guard sets him free and gives him an X-Wing in order to allow him to help the Rebels out. A good fight ensues, but Valance is no match for an entire pirate gang, or is he?
Another action packed issue is here with Bounty Hunters #9 and with it comes more gorgeous action pieces from artist Paolo Villanelli colorist Arif Prianto! The space and fighter sequences really shine in this episode with Prianto’s beautiful colors radiating across each page, especially with each laser blast, engine boost, and impact effects really popping out of each panel. Villanelli continues to give us incredible detail on all of the characters, especially with Valance’s face, as well as some fantastic detail recreating the Ohnaka Gang’s ships that look right out of The Clone Wars animated series. We also have a fun and fast paced romp here from writer Ethan Sacks as it’s intense pace and almost equally intense twists and turns never stop moving. Sacks’ writing barely stops the flow for slight story elements continuing Valance’s past with Han Solo and their group of Tie Fighters and the concurrent story beat involving the appearance of Losha Tarkon, T’onga’s partner. The last few pages especially give way to some great moments that tease the next issue.
Surrounded by a gang of pirates, a bounty hunter, and a group of Rebels led by the very untrusting Commander Purpura, Valance is forced to deal with the very limited resources he has to save the day, which honestly is often how he works best. Make sure to check out this newest issue of Bounty Hunters to see just how Valance attempts to keep his mission, and his life, from falling apart!
