Darth Vader (2020) #24 - Comic Review

The Dark Lord enacts his plan to take out an Imperial governor working for Crimson Dawn in Darth Vader (2020) #24!

Sabé, handmaiden of Padmé Amidala, has revealed to Darth Vader that she knows he is Anakin. Using this information, she takes him to a planet struggling with an evil Imperial governor who secretly works for the enemy of the Sith, Crimson Dawn, and is ruling over a planet that holds ex slaves from Anakin’s homeworld of Tatooine, including a few of the young boy’s old friends. In Darth Vader (2020) #24, Sabé, Vader, and Ochi of Bestoon go after this governor in order to deal a blow to Crimson Dawn, and perhaps help Anakin’s old friends in the process. As they prepare for the attack, the group realizes this member of Crimson Dawn might be smarter, and deadlier, than anyone else expects!

Writer Greg Pak continues his arc of Crimson Reign tie-ins with Darth Vader (2020) #24. It’s a lighter issue on plot, but still brings a lot of fun action to the table. Along with the action, Pak also brings back some prequel fan favorite enemies with the B1 Battle Droids and the Super Battle Droids! The visual artistic team of artist Marco Castiello, colorist Carlos Lopez, and letterer VC’s Joe Caramagna do a fantastic job of keeping up with Pak’s action on the page. As usual with this run of Vader comics there are a few film flashbacks, which Castiello and Lopez do a stunning job recreating in comic book format.

The main cover art for Darth Vader (2020) #24 is by Paul Renaud, and sees great depictions of Sabé and Ochi with an intense Vader looking over the two of them. The first variant is the Choose Your Destiny cover from the team of Chris Sprouse, Karl Story, and Neeraj Menon—showing off a powerful Darth Vader as well as a close-up of his lightsaber hilt and blade. The second variant cover for this issue is the Pride variant from Kei Zama and Rachelle Rosenberg featuring a trio of Padmé’s handmaidens: Sabé, Saché & Yané.

Darth Vader (2020) #24 continues the epic Crimson Reign tie-in story as well as the look back at Anakin Skywalker’s past. It’s a must read issue in this intense run exploring the ins and outs of the Dark Lord. So fire up your Sith Infiltrator and zoom on down to your local comic shop to pick up a copy today!
