The Dark Lord of the Sith takes on a planet killing machine in Darth Vader (2020) #27!

September 21, 2022 @ 9:16amThe Imperial Governor turned Crimson Dawn spy Tauntaza has created a machine that wreaks havoc on all organic matter it comes near. Previously, Darth Vader, Sabé, and Kitster were attacked by the storm of devastation the machine creates, but thankfully the Dark Lord saved them both. Now, in Darth Vader (2020) #27, the Sith finds himself going one on one with the machine of death. His crew of droids, rogues, and long lost friends need to devise a plan of attack, but what do you do against a machine that kills all organic life around it and is shielded from even blasts from a Super Star Destroyer?
Writer Greg Pak does a phenomenal job with Darth Vader (2020) #27. He weaves a fantastic and pulse pounding action thriller together with deep and fascinating character moments that delve into Anakin’s life and his relationship with those around him. It’s a super exciting and fun issue that is full of badass Vader moments as he quite literally takes on a massive machine one on one. Pak makes the Dark Lord feel just as badass and epic as ever while still letting him be a real person at the same time.
The visual artistic team for Darth Vader (2020) #27 consists of artist Raffaele Ienco, colorist Carlos Lopez, and letterer VC’s Joe Caramagna who all do a stellar job with these action packed pages. Ienco works wonders conveying the different emotions Vader deals with over the course of the issue. Vader, being who he is, tries his best to not show any feelings at all, and Ienco does a great job showing them off in very tiny, but very significant, ways. Lopez’s colors are my favorite part about the art, however, especially when it comes to portraying the devastation wrought on the planet from the machine.
The main cover art for Darth Vader (2020) #27 is by Rahzzah who gives us a GORGEOUS portrait of the Dark Lord himself with Sabé being shown within his towering form. The colors here are something truly special. Giuseppe Camuncoli and Jesus Aburtov give us the first variant cover—showcasing Kitster and Wald with a very nature oriented depiction of Darth Vader in the background. The second variant is the Choose Your Destiny cover from Chris Sprouse, Karl Story, and Rachelle Rosenberg, this time boasting a spectacular piece on the epic and legendary Sith: Darth Bane! The detail on Bane’s armor is masterful all on its own, not to mention the gorgeous colors and the lightsaber hilt, and really everything. It’s definitely a new favorite cover of mine.
Follow the further adventures of the Dark Lord of the Sith in Darth Vader (2020) #27 as we find Vader taking on a life killing machine! Will he survive, is he machine enough to take this fight head on, or is he too human to survive this epic encounter?
