Doctor Aphra (2020) #25 - Comic Review

The various friends and ex-friends of Aphra put their rescue plan into action in Doctor Aphra (2020) #25!

Recently the lovable rogue has found herself in quite the predicament when she became possessed by the Spark Eternal. Now, Doctor Aphra (2020) #25 finds her various acquaintances coming together to enact a rescue plan. After finding Aphra’s old droids, Triple-Zero and Beetee, they lead a charge on Crimson Dawn’s fortress-flagship The Vermillion in order to confront the possessed Aphra. At the same time, we find Aphra stuck within the memories of the Spark and conversing with its creator Miril. Also going on is the interaction between the Spark Aphra, Just Lucky and Ariole Yu as they try to survive their encounter with the maniacal entity.

What can I say that hasn’t already been said before about Alyssa Wong‘s writing? Doctor Aphra (2020) #25 continues the current, and possibly final, arc of Wong’s run and is once again one incredible issue. Their run on Aphra has been wonderful from issue one and has only consistently gotten better, this one pushing it even farther into incredible territory. The way they’ve pushed these characters past their entertaining bickering and fully rescue mode shows that Wong means business. They have set up one hell of an altercation as every character important to Aphra is sitting in one area for what I can only assume is the finale of this epic saga.

Doctor Aphra (2020) #25‘s artistic team is made up of artist Minkyu Jung, color artist Rachelle Rosenberg, and letterer VC’s Joe Caramagna. The three of them make one fantastic team of artists and once again make this issue an absolute beauty to behold. The standout has to be Rosenberg’s stunning colors that dazzle on every single page of this issue.

The main cover for Doctor Aphra (2020) #25 is by W. Scott Forbes which features absolutely stunning renditions of Sana Starros, Aphra, and Magna Tolvan that shine almost like a stained glass painting. The first variant cover comes from Natacha Bustos and Rachelle Rosenberg and is a tense and exciting piece depicting Sana taking on the possessed Aphra. Last, but not least, Greg Land and Frank D’Armata are back with another A New Hope 45th Anniversary cover boasting beautiful art of Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Chewbacca from the 1977 film.

Doctor Aphra (2020) #25 continues the incredible arc that Alyssa Wong has crafted and built to over the past few years in epic fashion. This series is not one to be missed, so fire up your Y-wing starfighters and rush down to your local comic shop to pick up a copy today!
