Halcyon Legacy #1 follows the adventures of the crew and passengers of the Halcyon Legacy, a starcruiser that has been around for hundreds of years! It starts off during the time of the First Order as we meet the young Cimina and her grandfather Shorr Komrrin. Komrrin has previous experience on this ship from when he was young, as brought up by the ship’s logistic droid Deethree-Ohnine. Though the main focus of this issue is a story Deethree tells of the past when two Jedi of the High Republic era, Jedi Master Nib Assek and Padawan Burryaga helped the Halcyon Legacy defend against a band of Nihil!
Writer Ethan Sacks starts off this miniseries with Halcyon Legacy #1 by going as far back into the past eras as possible with some good old fashioned High Republic adventure! It’s a nice fun comic, but unfortunately doesn’t deliver much in terms of substance. It’s also hindered a bit by jumping between three separate time periods within the first 10 pages of this issue. Sacks’ writing does deliver on excitement and entertaining character interactions, however, as well as bringing Cimina into the world of Star Wars who is just an absolute delight every time she’s on screen.
The artists who worked on Halcyon Legacy #1 consist of artist Will Sliney, colorist Rachelle Rosenberg, and letterer VC’s Joe Sabino. Together, they work well to bring to the issue multiple different time periods, each looking perfect for their individual settings, as well as many different characters with unique designs. The main cover artist is E.M. Gist who gives a breathtaking depiction of Burryaga, lightsaber drawn, in front of the Halcyon Legacy itself. There are also three variant covers, the first of which comes from Will Sliney and Lee Loughridge, which features many of the High Republic era cast such as Jedi, crew, and Nihil. The second and third variants both show Nib Assek taking on the armor clad Zeetar and are done by Caspar Wijngaard and Pasqual Ferry, respectively.
The first issue in this new miniseries, Halcyon Legacy #1, starts off what is sure to be an epic multi-era spanning story of what is possibly the greatest starcruiser to exist in all of Star Wars! You don’t want to miss this awesome tale, so head on down to your local comic shop to pick up this first issue today!
