Spoiler Warning

A group of pirates, led by Crimson Jack have cornered one of the greatest ships in the galaxy in Halcyon Legacy #2 as they tell the captain of the historical star cruiser, Captain Keevan, that they are searching for a Resistance spy that is hiding amongst the crew and guests! The captain tells the pirates that they will be able to board the ship, much to the dismay of Lenka Mok, the ship’s new cruise director. Captain Keevan has a few tricks up her sleeve, however, and decides to try and lose the pirates by using a very dangerous and daring maneuver! While this is occurring, the fun droid D3-09 regales another historical tale of the Legacy to passengers Cimina and Shorr Komrrin, this time detailing two legendary bounty hunters Aurra Sing and Zam Wesell as they fight off criminals, Hutts, and dangerous animals, as well as almost live through the same dangerous position the Halcyon Legacy is in right now!

Writer Ethan Sacks has upped his game with Halcyon Legacy #2 as he takes everything good about the first and improves them all immensely! The flow and pacing of this issue is wonderful as it follows three different plot threads, the pirate attack and Resistance spy, the story with D3-09, Cimina, and Shorr Komrrin, and the story of the bounty hunters in a previous Halcyon Legacy adventure, quite seamlessly. There never once feels like there is too much going on, and the characters and individual story beats all get enough page time to feel important and necessary. The main chunk of this story is the fun adventures, told in a way that feels like the retelling of a famous fairy tale, of Aurra Sing and Zam Wesell; Sacks does a fantastic job of keeping it entertaining and lighthearted while still having a deep sense of urgency and intensity. The best Star Wars stories are the ones that follow that dynamic, and Sacks’ story here follows that perfectly! He also infuses this issue with tons of hilarious dry humor, one perfect example being a “happily ever after” moment at the end of D3-09’s story that made me put the issue down and legitimately laugh out loud in my living room.

The visual artistic team of Halcyon Legacy #2 consists of artist Will Sliney, colorist Rachelle Rosenberg, and letterer VC’s Joe Sabino who have created such wonderful work together! Pretty much every panel of this issue was an absolute delight to behold. The main highlight of this issue is definitely how well the team draws the various species of aliens throughout the issue. From Weequay to Hutt, Nautolan to Clawdite, and even the large and deadly Predavorexx, everything was done so beautifully! Overall, this entire issue was gorgeous, not just the different creatures, but also the various expressions, multiple set pieces including the stunning and lush forest world of Numidian Prime, and even the action sequences were wonderful!

The main cover art of Halcyon Legacy #2 was done by artist E.M. Gist and is legitimately stunning! A breathtaking piece featuring Aurra Sing as the main focus of the cover, rifle at the ready, while Zam Wesell and the Halcyon Legacy itself take a smaller, but equally important, stage on the front of this issue. The first of two variant covers comes from the team of Will Sliney and Lee Loughridge and is the Connecting variant that, when set next to their variant for the first issue, connects to make a bigger piece of art featuring multiple characters from this issue next to characters from the previous one! David Lopez follows that up with the second variant depicting the epic battle between Aurra Sing and the Predavorexx on the planet Numidian Prime!

Halcyon Legacy #2 is an incredibly fun second issue to this miniseries following the epic adventures of one of the oldest star cruisers in the galaxy! It’s a fun and adventurous story with great art and big fairy tale vibes. So fire up your speeder bike and zoom on down to your local comic shop to pick up your copy today!
