July 6, 2022 @ 1:58pmIn the present day, the crew and passengers of the legendary Halcyon Legacy starcruiser do their best to escape a band of pirates led by the notorious Crimson Jack. The pirates are after Resistance spy Shorr Komrrin and will do anything they can to catch him. Knowing that he’s putting everyone aboard the Legacy at risk, Komrrin decides to give himself up in order to protect the passengers and granddaughter Cimina. To keep Cimina calm, the droid D3-09 tells her yet another story of the starcruiser’s past. This story finds three legendary rogues aboard an Imperial controlled Halcyon Legacy. General Kardan, who currently controls the ship, has been stealing spoils of war from his various conquests and hoarding them in the Legacy’s vault. Unbeknownst to him, Lando Calrissian, Maz Kanata, and Hondo Ohnaka have taken an interest in his various jewels and treasures, and none of them plan on leaving the ship empty handed!
Writer Ethan Sacks is back with another entertaining tale of wonder and excitement in Halcyon Legacy #4. This issue feels especially light in the plot and intrigue, but makes up for it by bringing in Calrissian, Kanata, and Ohnaka and letting them loose in a fun and fluffy tale. Each one of these characters is chaotic on their own, but Sacks puts them all together and lets them be as wild as ever! It’s the perfect kind of distracting and fun story that Cimina needs to keep her calm during such dire times—translating quite well into being a nice and fun distraction to everything going on in the real world as well.
The visual artistic team for Halcyon Legacy #4 consists of artist Will Sliney, colorist Rachelle Rosenberg, and letterer VC’s Joe Sabino. They do a great job with the present day pieces between the thrills of the chase between the Legacy and Crimson Jack’s ship and the intense emotions on the faces of the crew members as well as Komrrin and Cimina. Where the team really shines, though, is in their detail involving the trio of rogues. The way Sliney and Rosenberg bring Lando, Maz, and Hondo to life is a thing of beauty. They aren’t splitting images of their on screen personas, but instead a genuinely beautiful rendition perfect for the comic book medium.
The main cover art for Halcyon Legacy #4 comes from E.M. Gist and is one of the most stunning covers from any Star Wars comic so far this year! It details a fantastic depiction of the Halcyon Legacy itself, Lando Calrissian, and Hondo Ohnaka, but where Gist’s art truly comes through is the breathtaking colors across the page. The first variant cover is by Will Sliney and Lee Loughridge, which brings us full body art of a couple of stormtroopers as well as the main trio of rogues … it’s simply wonderful to look at! Marc Laming and Chris Sotomayor bring us the second variant cover, which finds Lando and Maz running from a group of Imperials who don’t seem interested in taking any prisoners.
Halcyon Legacy #4 continues the fun and entertaining fairy tale vibes of the miniseries with D3-09 telling another fun and fast paced romp to the young Cimina in order to keep her happy and distracted. Fire up your TIE fighters and fly on down to your local comic shop to pick up your copy today!
