August 24, 2022 @ 9:00amFeaturing stories from across the Star Wars timeline, each issue of Hyperspace Stories will tell standalone tales by a variety of authors and artists, and will be told through a series of 12 comic issues. A fun element involving a secret 13th storyline will be revealed when the issues are read in chronological order.
Hyperspace Stories #1 has Padmé Amidala on a diplomatic mission on the Outer Rim moon of Staggec with Senator Yarua, Wookiee representative from Kashyyyk accompanied by her young daughter Viiveenn. Their goal is to exchange a valuable item to the moon in exchange for their joining the Republic. Things don’t go quite as planned, however, as Separatists crash the party. The Jedi Council sends Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker to investigate and assist Padmé and the Wookiees. It wouldn’t be an exciting mission if there weren’t B1 droids and a certain multi-limbed evil general to combat. By issue’s end not everyone will make the return trip home, and the mystery lingers as to what exactly the valuable item was that the Separatists were after.
Writer Amanda Deibert makes her debut in the universe with Hyperspace Stories #1. Set some time after the start of the Clone Wars, Deibert keeps all things in balance—from the relationships between Master and Apprentice, and husband and wife to the action-packed battles between the Republic and Separatists. Joining her are illustrator and cover artist Lucas Marangon, color artist Michael Aliyah and letterers Tyler Smith and Jimmy Betancourt. The team presents a striking visual display of colors and action, all while helping tell the story in an effective and fun way. Specifically, Lucas Marangon’s character work is a great example of how taking a different stylistic approach to these characters (versus trying to make them look like the live action actors) can pay off; it also doesn’t hurt that his scenes involving droids are stellar.
Pull the throttle and enter lightspeed today, Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories #1 is on sale now!
