LEGO Ultimate Collector Series: Luke Skywalker’s X-34 Landspeeder Review

LEGO and Star Wars have had a great partnership over the years, together creating countless sets representing iconic characters, ships, vehicles, and scenes from the movies and TV shows. With the recent release of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga video game, the love for both the franchise and the toy company has been reinvigorated—and with that came along the brand new Ultimate Collector Series version of Luke Skywalker’s X-34 Landspeeder.

The Ultimate Collector Series has introduced some incredible LEGO sets, from the massive AT-AT to the incredibly detailed Millennium Falcon—these premium, higher end toys have been the crown jewels of the company, sought after by collectors from all over the globe. There have been many fan-built LEGO landspeeders, and this model has been in high demand (as compared to its in-galaxy counterpart). LEGO Star Wars Designer César Carvalhosa Soares has created the most authentic-looking replica possible of the iconic vehicle, with new elements, building techniques, and especially colors (the addition of nougat is movie accurate). The buildable vehicle measures over 19 inch long and comes with a display stand for the hover effect. It is complemented by a plaque showing X-34 Landspeeder technical data, and two LEGO minifigures: Luke Skywalker with a lightsaber and electrobinoculars, and a newly designed C-3PO.

The team at Tatooine Times spent about 11 hours building this 1890-piece marvelous model—approximately an hour per section (there are 11). Although the complexity of this model gave it an 18+ age rating, following along the 258-page booklet makes it a wonderful experience as each part and detail of Luke’s Landspeeder unveils before your eyes while building each section. Particularly satisfying are the detailed cockpit, the large windshield (a new element designed specifically for this model), and each turbine, especially the port one with the missing cowling and exposed wires. For collectors of LEGO minifigures, the new version of C-3PO is an absolute stunner. The new details in the arms and the fully designed silver leg give some extra authenticity to the set as a whole.
