Star Wars (2020) #24 - Comic Review

General Leia Organa and Starlight Squadron have Imperial Commander Zahra cornered in Star Wars (2020) #24!

After Commander Zahra used her Star Destroyer, The Tarkin’s Will, to raze a Rebel base, Shara Bey and the rest of Starlight Squadron sabotaged the massive ship and took it right out of the sky. Now, General Leia Organa and her Rebels have taken to searching for the villainous Imperial leader, but fortunately (or unfortunately) Zahra has decided to contact the Rebels and let them know exactly where she is to finish this fight once and for all. It’s obvious to the group of Rebels that this is a trap, but Leia is poised to spring that trap and be ready for battle as the final confrontation between the two commences!

Writer Charles Soule looks to end the current arc with Star Wars (2020) #24 in an exciting and intense way. This issue keeps you on the edge of your seat as you know the final confrontation between these two strong characters is coming, but it’s also made obvious that getting to said confrontation isn’t going to be easy. The visual artistic team of this issue does a great job of showing off the emotions radiating off of the characters during these intense and pulse pounding moments. Artists Ramon Rosanas and Madibek Musabekov, colorist Rachelle Rosenberg, and letterer VC’s Clayton Cowles make this issue a visual treat throughout every page and panel as we are lead across the rocky terrain of this planet on a trek to end a fight that started seemingly ages ago.

The cover of Star Wars (2020) #24 was done by artists Carlo Pagulayan, Jason Paz, and Rachelle Rosenberg. It features an explosive faceoff between General Leia and Commander Zahra, both with intense expressions and ready to fight. This issue comes with three variant covers as well, the first of which is the Action Figure variant cover from John Tyler Christopher—depicting Luke Skywalker in his Endor outfit from Return of the Jedi. Chris Sprouse, Karl Story, and Neeraj Menon are also back with their Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary cover with a beautiful piece showing off the Force ghosts of Luke and Leia from the end of The Rise of Skywalker. And last, but not least, is my personal favorite of the bunch: a gorgeous and epic cover from Rickie Yagawa and Nolan Woodard of Luke and Leia fighting off unseen attackers.

The long standing battle between General Leia and Commander Zahra seemingly comes to a pulse pounding close in Star Wars (2020) #24! Trapped on a planet full of Rebels, Zahra seeks to lure Leia and her squad into a climactic fight full of traps and surprises.
