Spoiler Warning

Sadly, Star Wars Adventures (2020) published by IDW comes to an end with issue #14. This series has provided fans with tons of fun stories from across the Star Wars universe. As of this publication there has not been any news regarding this title shifting over to Dark Horse once they pick up the license, but we can only hope that will be the case. Instead of dwelling on what we cannot change, let’s enjoy what we’ve been given!

Star Wars Adventures (2020) #14 kicks off with George Mann’s Repair Stop, Part II. We got Part I back in December and were left with bounty hunter Kief Varris successfully capturing possible Resistance recruit Moebin Faltus. Thankfully, Rey and BB-8 kickstart a plan to free Faltus and rid themselves of Varris, who thinks himself on the rise in the bounty hunting world (right up there with Boba Fett and Black Krrsantan). Faltus proves to be a capable ally as he, Rey and BB-8 work together to not only ditch Varris, but help out the crew of the Millennium Falcon as well. This very well could be a simple one-off story, but the conclusion of this tale makes it seem like this may not be the last we see of Faltus’ involvement with our troop of Resistance heroes. Butch Mapa’s vibrant, sharp artwork is once again a pleasure to see. His Rey characterization is a particular standout, capturing Daisy Ridley’s essence in his gorgeous comic book style.

Rounding out the issue is A Very Nihil Interlude by The High Republic author Justina Ireland with artwork by the always impressive Nick Brokenshire. Set on Hon-Tallos at some point in the High Republic era, Deva Lompop’s softer side comes out as she takes a youngling under her wing who can’t seem to find the courage to stand up for herself. Lompop hatches a fear-inducing plan to rid the young girl of the bullies who have been bothering her (what could be scarier than the threat of being eaten alive by a feather-mohawked being?). This story goes a long way in showing that even the bad guys (sometimes) can fight for justice. For the younger readers picking this issue up it’s also a good lesson about what someone looks like doesn’t define who they are (though as a parent I can’t help but wonder where this girl’s moms are!). Nick Brokenshire’s artwork blends innocence, fun, and fear amazingly; plus his retro comic book style applied to Star Wars is always a good time.

It wouldn’t be Star Wars Adventures without Francesco Francavilla, with his take on Rey gracing the issue’s main cover. Star Wars Adventures (2020) #14 is on sale now, don’t miss your chance to add the conclusion of this awesome title to your collection!
