The Bad Batch Double Take: Cornered

The Bad Batch: Cornered has Hunter, Omega, Echo, Wrecker, and Tech facing a new, familiar enemy during a supply run on Pantora.

The Bad Batch turns up the heat as Hunter, Omega, Echo, Wrecker, and Tech are the new target of none other than bounty hunter Fennec Shand! Although the episode duration is merely 25 minutes, The Bad Batch: Cornered is action-packed with plenty of satisfactory moments. Check my Double Take for the previous episode before moving on! Here are the highlights for the episode:

Spoiler Warning

Spoiler Warning

  • Fennec Shand: The fierce bounty hunter first introduced in The Mandalorian finally makes her appearance in The Bad Batch, and it’s a bold one. Although Shand’s inclusion in the show was already announced during the teaser trailer, her character is more than just an infamous cameo. She takes place alongside Crosshair among the main villains of the series—her hunt for Omega (commissioned by a mysterious individual) is a fiasco in this episode, but it is far from over. Ming-Na Wen returning to portray her iconic role (this time in animated form) just makes the character all the more authentic. I foresee some intriguing background stories that will tie right into The Book of Boba Fett.
  • Buggles: Let’s admit it, a container full of Voorpaks is irresistible. The six-legged cuties, first introduced in Resistance with Buggles, Torra Doza’s pet, sure like to play. One of them manages to snatch the young clone’s trooper doll (a nice callback to Jyn Erso’s toy in Rogue One), forcing Omega to follow the transport carrying the Voorpaks and ultimately losing sight of Hunter and Echo.
  • A Lesson of Trust: Omega’s naivete gets her in big trouble after getting lost in the busy streets of Pantora where she agrees to join a mysterious woman (Fennec Shand) in order to reunite with her adoptive family. This is yet another lesson for the young clone as she is far too trusting in a dangerous place like the galaxy, but also one for Hunter who clearly still has a lot to learn when it comes to fatherhood!
  • Droid Revolution: This is probably one of the most fun scenes of the entire show so far! I liked the subtle callback to Solo as the group of droids are freed from their awful master by the droid-disguised Echo. The protocol droid CG-67, astromechs 225 and DK-3, and Clink are a fun bunch—Clink’s feisty personality elevating the comedic side of the episode.
  • Chase Through the Streets of Pantora: This moment had to be a callback to the bounty hunter chase in Attack of the Clones. The entire sequence—from the fast, bright-lighted chase through the busy streets of Pantora mirroring the one in Coruscant to Shand’s character similarities with Zam Wesell—almost mirrors the iconic one of the prequel.

The Bad Batch: Cornered continues to surprise the fans with an exciting new villain, a high-speed chase, and lots of fun easter eggs that seemingly connect the animated galaxy with the live-action and vice-versa. I can’t wait to find out in the next episodes who Fennec Shand is working for: Is it a familiar foe … or a brand new one?
