May 30, 2021 @ 9:00amThe Bad Batch Fridays are starting to become a nice Star Wars routine for fans as each week we eagerly await the all-new episodes on Disney+ to discover what’s next for the clone misfits. This week’s episode, The Bad Batch: Rampage is a short but sweet one—full of action and a lot more lighthearted (besides the slavery aspect) than what we have seen so far. Here are the highlights for the episode:
Spoiler Warning
- Wrecker’s Workout Routine: Right from the start, Wrecker is a show stealer as he begins his workout routine with a series of squats with a Gonk droid while the rest of the team is gathered around Omega to give her her very first comm device. Even though he is performing the reps in the background, the droid’s noises in sync with each exhalation is hysterically funny, but it doesn’t take anything away from Omega’s moment, which is very precious and cute as always.
- Cid: The informant (who used to deal with the Jedi before Order 66) was an interesting individual. I didn’t expect to see an elder Trandoshan portraying the central character of The Bad Batch: Rampage. I like how Star Wars creators are slowly moving away from some of the racial stereotypes for the species (Sskeer is another great example), the lizard-like individuals often portrayed as savage beasts ready for the kill. I have a feeling this will not be her only appearance in the show.
- Muchi Unchained: The job was supposed to be simple, especially for a team like the Bad Batch. Freeing a kid from a group of Zygerrian slavers seemed like a job Hunter could do on his own. However, a vicious brezak was enough to ruin our heroes’ stealth plan. Luckily, Omega comes to the rescue … again! Every episode the young clone continues to surprise with her bravery and wits—I can say she is probably my favorite of the Batchers! She frees the kid, who was not a scared little Falleen but a juvenile rancor, ready to go on a rampage and take down each one of the slavers. Then the best moment of the episode arrives with Wrecker challenging for alpha authority. The beastial duel is like a Rocky match, only the outcome is an adorable throw-in-the-towel moment as Muchi falls exhausted to its side, followed by Wrecker who embraces the big creature in a sweet hug.
- Bib Brings the Bounty: Bib Fortuna’s cameo in the show was just delightful—his affection for Muchi almost heartwarming. Just hearing Matthew Wood’s voice as the pink Twi’lek was a treat of its own, and I can only hope the character will continue to show up in the episodes to come and perhaps lead the Bad Batch on a mission to Tatooine!
The Bad Batch: Rampage might not have given us much of a storyline progression (we still don’t know who hired Fennec Shand), but it was a fun and visually beautiful episode.
