The Bad Batch takes one step further into the dark as our heroes are stranded on a desolate moon while the Imperial army reform led by Governor Tarkin (yes, he got a promotion from his last appearance) proceeds swiftly as conscripted recruits are considered as future replacements to the clones. Check my Double Take for the previous episode before moving on! Here are the highlights for The Bad Batch: Replacements:
Spoiler Warning
- Crash Landing: As our heroes get thrown out of hyperspace (right in the middle of chow time) and begin a dangerous descent on a desolate moon, Wrecker (who is safely strapped next to Omega) pulls probably one of the funniest lines of the show so far. “We’re gonna die, we’re gonna die. We’re gonna… be fine” shows that Uncle Wrecker is trying really hard to be a good influence. The funny one-liner masked an important plot point that will probably play out in the next episodes: Wrecker’s headache (presumably caused by the crash) could be the beginning of his inhibitor chip’s activation.
- Project War Mantle: It’s so fascinating to see the transition from the clone army of the Republic to loyal recruits. Admiral Rampart’s Elite Squad is the ultimate test to see if Project War Mantle will indeed succeed. However, adding Crosshair as their leader definitely stirs up the dynamics as when it comes to terminating Saw Guerrera’s insurgents (including unarmed civilians) the clone does not hesitate whatsoever. I don’t see this collaboration between clones and future recruits playing out well, and I am hoping as we move forward with the story that Crosshair will get his redemption—which might just tragically end in the ultimate sacrifice.
- A Test of Courage: The Bad Batch: Replacements gifts us with yet more character development for Omega. She is without a doubt becoming the protagonist of the series! I loved how after Hunter was down she dove right into the nest of the Ordo Moon Dragon to retrieve the capacitor and how—despite carrying a blaster—she chose wits over killing the creature; this moment definitely showed a bit of her personality and morals.
- Omega’s Room: Probably one of the most beautiful moments of the series so far was uncle Wrecker’s surprise to Omega as he arranged a special room for the young clone. Seeing the happiness in her eyes while she hugs Lula (Wrecker parting from the doll is a sign of love and incredible generosity from his part) was a truly beautiful moment.
The Bad Batch: Replacements was a solid episode, with a good balance of real dark and heartfelt moments. What were your favorite moments from the episode? Share your thoughts with a comment below or by using the hashtag #TheBadBatchDoubleTake on Twitter!
