Spoiler Warning
Han Solo has been frozen in carbonite and taken captive by the ruthless bounty hunter Boba Fett! War of the Bounty Hunters Alpha #1 has the dangerous Mandalorian criminal on a task to bring Solo’s body to the powerful intergalactic gangster Jabba the Hutt on Tatooine. Such a task as this is important and time sensitive, as everyone knows not to keep a Hutt waiting, but as the carbonite tomb becomes unstable, Fett is forced to converse with a fellow criminal ally, a Besalisk by the name of Doc Ragon, on the dark planet of Nar Shaddaa. Doc is willing to help, but only for a price: to kill the planet’s prized Pit Fighter champion Wyrmen Lictor! Fett reluctantly agrees and goes on a tear through the local battle arena, but will he come out victorious? Or will the vicious combatants tear this fearsome bounty hunter limb from limb!
Wow, what a way to kick off the biggest Star Wars comic event ever! War of the Bounty Hunters Alpha #1 is the prelude to this epic event coming this summer and writer Charles Soule really brings a top notch story to kick it all off! Boba Fett here is as violent and ruthless as ever as Soule pits him against fighter after fighter in an epic tale of violence and brutality. Teaming up with a glorious crew of visual artists such as illustrator Steve McNiven, color artist Laura Martin, and letterer VC’s Travis Lanham, they’ve created the perfect opening to this dark, exciting, and honestly pretty gory war that is brewing. The art style here perfectly reflects the writing with the grimy and dirty colors of the underworld and vary seedy characters throughout. The lettering along the speech bubbles as well as the various visceral sound effects throughout the fights is a beauty to behold. Everyone is at the top of their game as we enter into what is sure to be a grand battlefield across the galaxy in the months to come.
Accompanying War of the Bounty Hunters Alpha #1 and this glorious prelude is a slew of stunning cover art. Steve McNiven and Laura Martin’s main cover of the issue is explosive and fiery as it showcases the danger Fett is about to be put as he tries to push his way through the galaxy to get Han Solo to his new owner. The gorgeous variant covers all by Steve McNiven & Laura Martin, John Tyler Christopher, and Leinil Francis & Sunny Gho are wonderfully to behold between Fett swinging away from various blasters, different armor designs upon the original cover, and even a gorgeous retro toy inspired cover! They all give such fun and excitement to look at as the first piece of epic art on the front of an even more epic story inside.
Boba Fett is a man known for his ruthless violence. Feared by the galaxy’s citizens and sought after by the galaxy’s villains and heroes, War of the Bounty Hunters Alpha #1 is just the start of his epic fight to stay alive and get paid. So get up out of your carbonite-freezing chamber and fly off to your local comic shop today to get this must read issue!
